Over 10 Bahraini participants so far in World Summit Awards

MANAMA, August 10, 2022

The World Summit Awards (WSA) for eContent have received more than ten participations from Bahrain, according to a statement from the Bahrain Technology Companies Association (BTECH).
 
BTECH has declared that until August 15, both government and private sector initiatives related to Arabic eContent are eligible to participate in this worldwide award.
 
The Society explained that the Bahraini projects participating so far have included digital initiatives related to innovative eContent, such as websites, eMarkets, mobile apps, games and interactive apps. WSA categories are government and citizen engagement, health and well-being, learning and education, environment and green energy, culture and tourism, smart settlements and urbanisation, business and commerce inclusion and empowerment and WSA young innovators.
 
Unique awards system
The WSA is a unique awards system, that selects and promotes local digital innovation to improve society. Combining an ongoing series of international events and activities with a global network of start-ups, social entrepreneurs, mentors, jurors, speakers, experts, government leaders, academia, and civil society, WSA is an international platform for cutting-edge examples of how ICTs can impact society positively.
 
BTECH noted that the winners of the World Summit Awards (WSA) will get an Invitation to the WSA Global Congress, Integration into a network of internationally recognised digital content developers, access to the WSA community of global experts and industry leaders in over 180 countries, interaction with world-renowned sponsors and partners of the WSA community, and Workshops specially shaped for the winners' needs.
 
“The World Summit Awards (WSA) aims to highlight the best initiatives and applications of Arabic eContent in Bahrain. In addition to encouraging the development of high quality and innovative eContent that contributes to the economic and social development in Bahrain,” said BTECH Chairman Tariq Fakhroo.
 
International cooperation
In addition to providing a platform for communication, learning, and interaction, Fakhroo emphasised that the WSA aims to foster international cooperation in the implementation of technological projects, the sharing of knowledge and experiences, and the transfer of knowledge and science, and the sharing of best technical practices.
 
"This award, which was founded in 2003, has demonstrated the critical role that cultural, linguistic, and local diversity and content play in creating a global information society. It has been able to pinpoint significant international trends in eContent across a range of industries, including e-government, e-education, culture, and e-tourism among others," Fakhroo added.
 
The World Summit is a global initiative to follow up on the World Summit on the Information Society, which was organised by the United Nations in 2003.
 
This initiative is organised by the International Centre for New Media, based in Salzburg Vienna, in cooperation with several relevant United Nations organisations and bodies such as UNESCO, UNIDO and the United Nations Development Programme, and international associations such as the Internet Society and the Global Alliance for Information Technology and Services.-- TradeArabia News Service
