Bahrain to launch revamped ID cards

MANAMA, 15 hours, 47 minutes ago

Bahrain’s Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) will soon launch of the fully revamped and enhanced identity card, aligned with the latest international technologies and standards.

The revamped ID card will feature a range of enhancements and expanded capabilities for digital transactions. The introduction of the new ID card will mark a significant shift in card service delivery by incorporating biometric features, increased capacity, improved quality, and utilising a newly developed printing system to support and reduce maintenance costs and government expenditures, iGA said.

The Information & eGovernment Authority has asked citizens and residents who plan to renew their ID cards in the near future to wait and renew them after their cards expire, provided they do not have urgent needs requiring immediate renewal.

The authority clarified that limiting the renewal to only expired ID cards comes also in line with the maintenance activities at the Customer Service Center (Isa Town branch) which will take place until February 15 as the number of appointments are limited for card services due to the centre upgrading works. However, customers can easily complete their transactions using the eServices available on the National Portal, bahrain.bh, it said.

iGA highlighted that this step is part of its continuous efforts to enhance the efficiency of the identity card system, streamline government operations, and improve customer satisfaction for citizens, residents, business owners, and organizations. It also aims to provide a better and more innovative experience for customers, contributing to the advancement of the information and communications technology sector in the Kingdom of Bahrain regionally and globally. -TradeArabia News Service
