ADDIS ABABA, 1 hours, 47 minutes ago

Ethiopian Airlines Group, Africa’s largest carrier and one of the world’s fastest-growing airline brands, has inaugurated its new airport project in Yabello, in the southern part of Oromia Regional State, together with the launch of passenger services to the facility.

The project, developed at a cost of over ETB 1 billion, is located 11 km from Yabello Town in the Borena Zone. It includes a new airfield, access roads, a temporary terminal and supporting facilities.

The inauguration was attended by senior government officials, airline executives, community representatives and key stakeholders.

Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said: “The completion of the Yabello Airport project demonstrates Ethiopian Airlines’ commitment to advancing aviation infrastructure that transforms lives and connects communities across Ethiopia. This is a transformative moment for the local community and the entire region, and as the flag carrier of Ethiopia, we are proud to have made this moment a reality.”

The new airport is expected to significantly enhance regional trade, tourism and investment, while strengthening people-to-people ties. It will also improve accessibility to southern Oromia, supporting socio-economic growth and Ethiopia’s wider national development strategy.

Yabello is one of several domestic aviation infrastructure projects undertaken by Ethiopian Airlines as part of its drive to expand the country’s aviation landscape, bridge communities and contribute to sustainable national growth.  -TradeArabia News Service
